The new stadium in Aarhus’ Kongelunden, also known as Skovens Arena (“The Forest’s Arena”), is inspired by the old tree trunks and integrates itself into the historical context of Stadion Allé and the nearby church. The white columns rise as a striking architectural crown, while vertical lamellas and a transparent roof add both grandeur and comfort. With a capacity of 24,000 spectators, the arena brings the audience close to the pitch in an intense atmosphere, while the original stadium building is preserved and renovated.
The project places high demands on design, production, and assembly, where ambitious visions from Zaha Hadid Architects and complex structural requirements have called for technical innovation and tailor-made solutions.
Peikko has been a central partner in the process. Already in the early phases, we contributed with proposals for solutions for the distinctive main columns, where bolted connections made it possible to produce, transport, and assemble the elements efficiently and safely. In addition, we have supplied DELTABEAM® Composite Beams, THRELDA® Anchor Plates for façades, as well as a range of other connection products, including SUMO® Wall Shoes, BOLDA® Column Shoes, COPRA® Threaded Rebar Couplers, and HULCO® High-Strength Anchor Bolts.
Collaboration with consultants, contractors, and especially our colleagues in Germany, who have extensive experience from international stadium projects, has been crucial. It has provided valuable technical sparring and made it possible to develop installation-friendly, safe, and flexible solutions that support the architectural ambitions and ensure smooth execution on site.
